MIDTOWN EAST ATLANTA VILLAGE DECATUR VIRGINIA-HIGHLANDS
INMAN PARK / LITTLE FIVE POINTS / CANDLER PARK

The city's "first suburb," Inman Park is a tree-lined neighborhood filled with gorgeously renovated Victorian homes, Atlanta's best approximation of San Francisco's "painted ladies." The refurbished Trolley Barn is the most visible reminder of that past, where the old train cars were stored before MARTA opened a station in the heart of the community. Some of the homes now operate as B&B's. Across Moreland Avenue, lesbians snapped up many of Candler Park's cozy, craftsman bungalows in the '70s and '80s, before real estate prices soared. Today, its small but thriving business district is one of the most gay-friendly areas in town. And planted squarely between the two neighborhoods is Little Five Points, Atlanta's most bohemian retail district. The pub where the Indigo Girls got their start changed ownership long ago, but Little Five Points is still the best place in town for vintage clothes, vinyl records, and a new tattoo or piercing.
