The Virginia-Highlands neighborhood was one of the first areas gays began to gentrify outside of Midtown, and a gay sensibility is still entrenched there, as reflected in the election of the second consecutive openly lesbian Councilmember, Anne Fauver.

Located just east of Midtown's Piedmont Park, Virginia-Highlands gets its name from the intersection of Virginia and North Highland avenues, the heart of this vibrant area.

Three tree-lined clusters of unique retail and restaurant establishments, separated by beautifully-landscaped residential properties along North Highland Avenue, comprise this popular district. Four additional business clusters are located on North Highland Avenue as it winds through other gay-friendly neighborhoods north and south of Virginia-Highlands.
