| The
Virginia-Highlands neighborhood was one of the first
areas gays began to gentrify outside of Midtown,
and a gay sensibility is still entrenched there,
as reflected in the election of the second consecutive
openly lesbian Councilmember, Anne Fauver.
Located just east of Midtown's
Piedmont Park, Virginia-Highlands gets its name
from the intersection of Virginia and North Highland
avenues, the heart of this vibrant area. Three
tree-lined clusters of unique retail and restaurant
establishments, separated by beautifully-landscaped
residential properties along North Highland Avenue,
comprise this popular district of Virginia Highlands, Atlanta. Four additional
business clusters are located on North Highland
Avenue as it winds through other gay-friendly
neighborhoods north and south of Virginia-Highlands.
